Building a Tech Pack From Scratch

If you are a first-time buyer without a reference sample, you can still build a workable tech pack. Start with a free template (we provide one on request). Fill in: the bag type (backpack, duffel, dry bag, cooler), the target retail price and your margin target, the intended use (hiking, boating, beach, promo), the required waterproof rating (water-resistant vs submersible), your logo and brand colors, and the target quantity. Our designers then propose three material and construction options at different price points, and you pick the one that matches your margin. This collaborative process typically takes 2–3 email rounds before we quote and sample.

Tooling and Mold Costs

Soft waterproof bags rarely need hard tooling. The one-time costs you should expect are: pattern making (included in sampling), custom cutting dies (USD 50–150 per size, reusable for reorders), custom hardware if you need a branded buckle (USD 300–800 for a mold), and custom packaging die cuts (USD 100–300). Unlike injection-molded hard goods, there is no six-figure tooling bill. This is why OEM waterproof bags are accessible to brands ordering 500 pcs rather than 50,000.

Forecasting and Reorder Management

Most brands start with one SKU at 500 pcs, then reorder the winners. We hold your approved sample and cutting dies for 24 months after the first order, so reorders take 35–45 days with no re-sampling. For repeat buyers, we offer a rolling 12-month forecast review: share your sell-through data and we will recommend when to reorder to avoid stockouts during peak season (Q3 for outdoor, Q4 for promo). We also support split shipments: produce 1,000 pcs and ship 500 now, 500 in 60 days, with the second half held in our warehouse at no charge.

Quality Agreements and Production Defects

We work to AQL 2.5 (major) and 4.0 (minor) per ANSI/ASQC Z1.4. In practice, that means a 1,000-piece order allows up to 21 major defects and 40 minor defects across the whole batch. Most of our waterproof bags come in well under this threshold because the in-line QC catches welding defects at the station. Most buyers tell us this review alone is worth the sampling fee.

Private Label Branding Options

Logo placement on waterproof bags has four viable methods. Screen printing works on flat TPU/PVC panels, costs USD 0.10–0.30 per unit, and holds up well outdoors. Heat transfer works on curved or textured surfaces but fades after 1–2 years of UV exposure. Woven labels are sewn into the interior or side seam and look premium; they cost USD 0.40–0.80 per unit. PU leather patches are embossed and stitched on, giving a luxury feel at USD 0.80–1.50 per unit. We do not recommend direct embroidery on TPU film because the needle holes create leak paths. We will recommend the right method based on your bag type and brand position on the quote.

Sample Rounds and Approval Workflow

Plan for two to three sample rounds. Round one: we build to your tech pack and ship by DHL. You inspect, take measurements, test in water, and send written comments with photos. Round two: we apply the comments and ship a revised sample. Round three (rare): minor adjustments to hardware or print color. We require written sample approval before bulk production starts, and we hold the approved sample as the production standard. If a bulk unit does not match the approved sample on a measurable spec, it is a defect. This written-approval discipline is the single biggest predictor of a smooth first order.

Reorder Economics

Reorders are cheaper and faster than the first order. Sampling is waived (we hold the approved sample and cutting dies). Material is reordered from the same lamination mill lot where possible, so color consistency holds. Lead time drops from 35–50 days to 30–40 days because no new setup is needed. Unit price typically drops 5–10% on reorders over 1,000 pcs because setup cost is amortized across a longer run. We recommend new buyers place a first order of 500 pcs to test the market, then reorder 1,000–2,000 pcs once sell-through data confirms the SKU.

Our MOQ is 500 pcs per style, which is workable for a funded Kickstarter campaign. For sub-500 pcs Kickstarter launches, we can discuss a small pilot at a higher unit price, but it is not our standard offering.

Do you support Amazon FBA prep?

Yes. We offer polybagging, suffocation warning labels, FNSKU labeling, carton labeling and shipment creation to your Amazon FBA warehouse. We can ship directly to the FBA center on your behalf.

Working With Us: What to Expect on Email

We reply within 24 hours on business days (GMT+8). The first reply usually includes a short set of clarifying questions: target quantity, destination, material preference, and whether you have a reference sample or tech pack. Once we quote, we hold the price for 30 days. During production, we send photo updates at material cutting, first welded piece, 50% completion and final packing. After shipment, we send the tracking number, commercial invoice, packing list and (for DDP) the delivery appointment details. We do not go silent between updates; if a delay occurs, we tell you the reason and the new date immediately.

Ordering From Outside China: Documentation Checklist

Before your first shipment, prepare: your business entity details, importer ID / EIN (US) or EORI (EU), a customs broker if you choose FOB, and any brand-specific compliance requirements (CPSIA test orders, REACH SVHC declarations). We provide: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, material test reports, and (on request) factory audit reports. For DDP shipments, we handle the rest.
